Travel Writing Course

Fiction Writing Course

This course is designed to teach you both journalist skills, and the specialist skills required to make your observations of exotic and local destinations pungent and memorable. We also show you how to pitch story ideas to editors, which publications take unsolicited work, and advise you of the many pitfalls that await the inexperienced beginner. The course, which runs for six weeks, is based on group work and discussion, but there is also opportunity to develop your own work in class.

This aim of this course is to help you develop your own distinctive literary voice. This course is intended for those who have completed a first degree (in any subject), have had some work published, or have completed an introductory creative writing course. The course, which runs for two semesters, features group discussion of students work, and workshops by leading NZ fiction writers. Each student will also be matched to an established NZ fiction writer for one-on-one mentoring.

Introduction To Creative Writing Course

This course is intended for those who have already completed an extended fiction writing course, such as the Society of Authors Mentoring Programme, a Masters of Creative Writing, or have had some initial publication record such as some short stories published. Teaching occurs in a supportive small group environment, where students apply sophisticated analysis to their own work.

Have you wanted to try out your own unique creative voice, but are unsure of how to start? This course is designed for complete beginners - those who have never taken a creative writing course before, or who would like to build their writing confidence. During sessions, students get a chance to complete exercises which teach them new skills, are fun, and rely on supportive feedback. We introduce the basic writing skill set.
